Registration Procedure
The registration process is based on the formation of a Company licensed by the Financial Services Commission to maintain a Global Business Licence (GBL1 / GBL2) and the registration of vessel(s) via the Ministry of Trade and Shipping. - Application for Mauritius Registered Vessel, Call Sign (Form SR01) and Official Number;
- Certificate of Incorporation (for all Companies and Bodies Corporate);
- Declaration of Ownership (Form SR02);
- Board of directors resolution authorising a company secretary or director to execute the registration of the ship in Mauritius;
- Declaration of Ownership;
- Original documents pertaining to sale (for example, Bill of Sale, Builder’s Certificate);
- Certificate of Survey issued by (listed below) classification societies authorised to carry out the measurements and survey of the ship on behalf of the Government of Mauritius. A ship measured in accordance with said stipulations will be awarded with a Mauritius Tonnage Certificate by the applicable Classification Society. The Act allows a surveyor to receive a tonnage certificate issued by a foreign registry if the surveyor is satisfied that there has been no changes of measurement since the previous registration.

- In the event that a vessel originates from a foreign register, we require a Certificate of Deletion in addition to a declaration stating that the ship is free & clear of registered impediments.
- Documents supporting an application in a foreign language must be accompanied by translated, notarised documents in English.
- Upon receipt of said certificates, the Director of Shipping will assign an official vessel number and provide a Carving and Marking Note.

Eligible Owners for Mauritius Vessel Registration
Per Mauritian Maritime Regulations, the following categories of individuals and or companies are permitted to acquire, own, maintain and register ships under the Mauritian Flag:
Furthermore, the aforementioned persons or companies can register a foreign vessel under the Mauritian Flag provided the vessel is bareboat chartered to said entities for a period no less than 12 months.
Every manner of sea worthy vessel, lighter, launch or barge structure, regardless of propulsion, intended for use in navigation is eligible but it must also satisfy the following:
- Mauritian Citizens
- Mauritius incorporated companies effectively controlled by Mauritian citizens
- Mauritius incorporated companies or firms that have been incorporated overseas, having been awarded the approval of the relevant authorities
- Companies holding a Category 1or Category 2 Global Business Licence, provided their objects are confined to the registering of ships under the Mauritian Flag and that their shipping activities are carried out exclusively outside Mauritius
Furthermore, the aforementioned persons or companies can register a foreign vessel under the Mauritian Flag provided the vessel is bareboat chartered to said entities for a period no less than 12 months.
Every manner of sea worthy vessel, lighter, launch or barge structure, regardless of propulsion, intended for use in navigation is eligible but it must also satisfy the following:
- Age: It shall not exceed 15 years of age since the date of first construction.
- Class: It must maintain class with one of the classification societies approved by the Director of Shipping who shall issue a Mauritius Tonnage Certificate.
- Third party liability insurance must be produced with certificates demonstrating compliance with international maritime conventions to which Mauritius has acceded.
